Patient Support

When dealing with the uncertainty and discomfort of colon, rectal and small bowel disorders, you deserve a care team that meets all your physical and emotional needs. At the Digestive Health Institute, we have assembled the brightest, most innovative providers and bolster the clinical care they give you with the expertise of others who provide the compassion, guidance and support you need on your journey to wellness.

Led by a nurse navigator, this expanded care team includes nutritionists to help you find a meal plan that packs in necessary nutrients without irritating your condition. There are physical therapists who teach patients how to strengthen key muscles. And our behavioral health specialists listen to you and your family’s concerns and even suggest soothing therapies.

Your support team at the Digestive Health Institute includes:

  • Nurse navigators. Our nurse navigators streamline your entire experience with us, coordinating your appointments, helping you navigate the healthcare system, providing valuable educational and emotional support, and answering questions.
  • Behavioral health resources. Many health conditions can be emotionally and socially distressing, and some gastrointestinal symptoms can be traced to a psychological cause. The behavioral health specialists on our team can help with both scenarios. The goal is to improve your physical symptoms and emotional well-being proactively using cognitive behavioral therapy, clinical hypnosis, relaxation and biofeedback training, acceptance and commitment therapy and/or coping support.
  • Nutritionists. Our registered dietitians have a vast knowledge of different digestive health disorders and can work with you to create a personalized eating plan that can keep you healthy but avoid irritation.
  • Physical therapists. Injury and healthcare conditions can damage or weaken muscles that are necessary for effective and painless digestion. Our therapy team can work with you to regain that strength when possible.
